Travel

At Genesee Amateur Hockey Association (GAHA), we offer travel teams that provide the opportunity to compete against other top talent while developing advanced skills and a deeper understanding of the game.

WNY Tier III is for young athletes who are dedicated to their sport and are looking for opportunities to compete at a higher level, develop their skills further, and gain more exposure and experience.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed in the sport by aligning their development with their current stage of growth. We understand that each player progresses at their own pace, and we are committed to providing a supportive environment that fosters both individual and team success.

We recognize that this is not the ideal fit for every child and family.

Key features of travel teams

Competitive Play: Travel teams participate in leagues, tournaments, and events that are often more competitive than those at the local or recreational level. Players on travel teams face stronger opponents, which helps them to improve their skills and experience higher levels of play.

Higher Commitment: Being on a travel team usually requires a greater commitment in terms of time, effort, and sometimes finances. Practices are often more frequent and intense, and there may be additional travel for games and tournaments.

Skill Development: Because of the higher level of competition, travel teams focus heavily on skill development. Coaches on these teams often have advanced knowledge of the sport and work closely with players to refine their techniques, strategies, and understanding of the game.

Parental Involvement: Due to the travel and commitment involved, parents often play a significant role in supporting their children on travel teams. This can include transportation, fundraising, and attending games and tournaments.
